New Vegan Bakery Participates In DNC's Carolinafest 2012

Full circle moment!  Inspired by the hope and vision brought on by the Obama/Biden 2008 presidential campaign. Michelle Wilson – a successful anthropologist working in Washington, DC began to plot her dream of running a vegan business despite the country’s economic climate. Michelle chose Charlotte, NC to start her made-to-order vegan bakery much for the same reason the DNC decided to hold it’s convention here—the city is expectant with possibility.  Having opened their doors for business less than 12 months ago, Chelly’s Cakes-n-Pastries has quickly gained a following in the vegan community in Charlotte.  Chelly’s is sold in several locations across Charlotte including: Healthy Home Market, Berrybrook Farm, Eco-Licious, and Whole Foods.

Chelly’s uses all natural ingredients that are locally sourced and organic where possible.  Favorite bakery items include the Sweet Potato Cinnamon Bun, Lemonberry Cupcake, Mocha Fudge Cupcake, Apple and Peach Pie Muffins and seasonal treats like Strawberry and Cherry Vanilla Cupcakes.

Chelly, a self-described southern hippy was raised in the beautiful mountains of Asheville, NC.  She received her undergraduate degree in Sociology with a minor in Anthropology from NC A&T State University in Greensboro, NC.  She went on to obtain a graduate degree in Applied Anthropology from the University of Maryland-College Park.  Michelle worked as a Professional Anthropologist and for several years at Georgetown University and later worked for the LTG Associates Inc., the oldest anthropological consulting firm in the country prior to embarking on her career as a vegan bakery business owner.

It’s a dream come true and a full circle moment for Chelly’s Cakes-n-Pastries to participate in the DNC’s Carolina Fest.
