Tops Markets unveiled a new sweet corn variety on Sunday that promises extra sweetness and kernels that pop and crunch when you bite into them.
Amaize is a white supersweet variety created by the Crookham Co., a leading sweet corn, popcorn and onion breeder in Idaho. Traditional breeding methods, not genetic modification, were used in its development, which is the result of two decades’ worth of research and breeding.
The supersweet sweet corn category is sweeter than traditional sweet corn varieties and has a longer shelf life. Steven Wright, produce director at Tops, says Amaize is especially sweet and has a unique texture.
