Multiple Wins For Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company At 2012 ACS

Point Reyes, CA – Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company of Marin County took home two ribbons at the American Cheese Society’s Annual Judging & Competition in Raleigh, NC on Friday, August 3rd.  Toma earned a 2nd Place Ribbon in the American Originals Category and the company’s newest creation, Bay Blue (formerly called New Blue), received a 3rd Place Ribbon in the Rinded Blue Cheese Category.

The American Cheese Society celebrated its 29th anniversary this year in Raleigh where the 2012 Judging & Competition saw a record number of entries: 1,711 cheeses and cultured milk products from 254 different companies in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

“Toma continues to earn praise from consumers and critics alike ,” said Bob Giacomini, owner of Point Reyes Farmstead. “We introduced Toma to answer the call for folks who don’t love blue cheese, and it has been a hit since we launched it in 2010.  The buttery flavor and creamy texture makes Toma perfect for both snacking and for cooking.”

Giacomini, together with his wife and four daughters, founded Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company on their family dairy in 2000.  Ultra-creamy, full flavored Original Blue™ Cheese is the flagship product of the company, but is no longer the only blue cheese the family makes.  They recently introduced the now award-winning Bay Blue, a rustic-style, fudgey-textured blue cheese with a beautiful natural rind that is available only at the farm and at farmers’ markets in San Francisco, Oakland and Marin County.  The broader Point Reyes Farmstead product line is available nationally at independent cheese shops and specialty chains as well as at www.pointreyescheese.com.

The American Cheese Society is an active, not for profit trade organization that encourages the understanding, appreciation and promotion of farmstead and natural specialty cheeses produced in the Americas and Canada.  Visit The American Cheese Society website for a complete listing of competition winners.
