The value of agricultural crops in San Mateo County fell for the fourth straight year, dropping to $137 million in 2011.
That's down from $180 million in 2002, the San Mateo County Times reports, giving the total gross value of all crops in the county — from artichokes and honey to timber and hogs.
A big flower grower, Nurseryman's Exchange, which employed a lot of people and had 2010 sales of $62.7 million, went bankrupt in May 2011, hurting the value of the county's crops.
