Deerfield Beach, Florida – Established Grower Shipper and Importer AYCO Farms has announced significant growth and expansion activities to position the company as a global player in produce procurement. Recent acquisitions, partnering and new talent enhance AYCO’s ability to provide a wide variety of top quality products to buyers year round. “Our focus is to continue investing in direct farming, “states Avi Nir, CEO of AYCO. “The most effective way we can reliably serve our customers into the future is to continue building our own farming organizations.”
As part of the diversification plan, AYCO has made some strategic moves in Mexico and McAllen, Texas. As of June 1, the company acquired procurement and farming operations in Mexico. Jorge Del Toro is the new General Manager of AYCO Mexico, based out of Irapuato, and is responsible for building on the existing grower base as well as developing AYCO-run farming organizations. “We are energized about how Jorge and our new team in Mexico will fit into our company,” says Nir.
Parallel to the Mexican sourcing and growing operation AYCO has staffed an office in McAllen, Texas. Operating since June, the office employs executives with over 25 years of combined experience in the region. The team is headed by Thomas (Sparky) Northcross as Sales Manager. “The McAllen office allows us full control of the logistics process,” explains Nir. “Having our own coolers along with quality control, food safety, traceability and our sales team on-site gives us a significant advantage.”
