Although it’s official name has been Dairy Farmers of America Harleysville since 2005, the familiar Keller’s Creamery name remains on the Franconia Township plant on Maple Avenue.
However, it was announced by DFA on Monday that the butter maker will be closing. Keller’s Creamery manufactures butter for retail, industrial and food service uses, and its brands include Keller’s, Hotel Bar and Plugra.
DFA’s vice-president of communications, Monica Massey, said in a statement: “We notified employees today of our intent to transfer warehousing and distribution of our retail and food service accounts from Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) Harleysville, Pa., facility to Burlington, N.J.-based Balford Farms, a privately-owned independent dairy distributor serving the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.
“Limited space at the facility and increased distribution costs motivated DFA to explore alternative warehousing and distribution options. By partnering with Balford Farms, which has a strong reputation for customer satisfaction, DFA will be able to consolidate resources, operate more efficiently and sustainably, and continue providing quality service to our valued customers,” she said.
