Two Fort Worth businesses have come together in something worthwhile, all in good taste. Literally.
Legendary Fort Worth restaurant, Swiss Pastry Shop, had the idea to use TX Blended Whiskey from the Fort Worth distillery, Firestone & Robertson Distilling Co. and bake it into Whiskey Caramel Meringue Pie. The result?
"It's kinda like a Rated R version of a butterscotch with a brown sugar meringue," Hans Muller, owner of Swiss Pastry Shop, jokingly conceded.
Apparently customers are raving:
John Forsyth, Dallas pie enthusiast, tweeted:
"Just had the Texas whiskey caramel meringue at Swiss Pastry Shop. Wow. Caramel cream good too. And banana cream; Gilligan would've loved it." (@americanpieways)
Bud Kennedy, writer of Eats Beat for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, also messaged his followers:
"Just tried the Swiss Pastry Shop whiskey caramel pie. Run try it before they close . . ." (@eatsbeat)
On Facebook, Swiss Pastry Shop fan, Crystal Castellanos, commended, "Whiskey Caramel Pie with a cup of strong coffee!! HEAVENLY!! I highly recommend it for breakfast!! ;-)"
Swiss Pastry Shop is famous for its indulgent flourless dessert, Black Forest Cake, in addition to a mouth-watering assortment of pastries, pies, cakes and cookies.
"For our lunchtime customers at our deli," said Muller, "I tell them that their hardest decision now is to choose between the traditional favorite Black Forest Cake and this new Whiskey Pie. So I encourage them to eat one and get another to take home for dinner!"
Muller suggests that customers contact the bakery/deli if they insist on eating a certain kind of pie, including the Whiskey Caramel Meringue Pie. "Our pies are baked fresh, and although we would like to offer each one daily, sometimes certain ones may not make it on the daily menu." Customers can call ahead at (817) 732-5661.
The Swiss Pastry Shop is one of Fort Worth's favorite scratch bakery/deli destinations for area foodies, blending traditional Swiss technique and Fort Worth style to make some of the area's favorite desserts and sandwiches. Located on 3936 West Vickery in Fort Worth, Texas, the Swiss Pastry Shop is open for breakfast and lunch, including serving espresso.
