SALISBURY — Seafood producer Handy International will attempt to create a crab cake weighing more than 300 pounds and break its own record for the Guinness World Records' Largest Crab Cake.
The cooking gets under way Sept. 1 about 2 a.m. on the grounds of the Maryland State Fair in Timonium. The colossal crab cake, seasoned with a secret recipe by Handy staff, will be sliced after cooking into approximately 1,000 sandwiches and sold to benefit the Maryland 4-H Foundation, according to fair organizers.
If the undertaking is successful, the Handy crab cake will be recognized by the Guinness World Records as exceeding the current 253-pound record holder — made by Handy.
"I am excited in attempting to break the current record and raise funds to support the mission of the Maryland 4-H Foundation," said Jim Cupp, regional sales manager at Handy. "What a way for the seafood community to join in helping to support the agricultural community for the state of Maryland."
