Grupo Bimbo Announces Its 2012 Bimbo Pan-American Nutrition, Food Science & Technology Awards

MEXICO CITY — Grupo Bimbo, one of the top baking companies worldwide, with leading brands such as Arnold, Entenmann's, Sara Lee, Stroehmann's, and Thomas, announces its official call for participants to the 2012 Bimbo Pan-American Nutrition, Food Science and Technology Award. Since 2004, the award has aimed to promote and support innovation and research in these fields.

This award is part of the company’s “Committed to your Health” Program, created in 2003, in response to the company’s interest in improving the health and well-being of consumers throughout the different countries it operates in. This program is based on five initiatives which are aligned with the World Health Organization´s Global Strategy on Diet, Physical Activity, and Health.

The call for participants in the Fifth Edition of the Awards will remain open until August 17, 2012.

This award recognizes the best research papers published during 2011 or 2012. Research must have been conducted in the fields of Nutrition, Food Science and/or Technology in two categories: Thesis Category (Masters or Doctoral students) and Professional Category (professionals or researchers in these fields). This year, eight different awards will be presented in the field of Nutrition and eight in the field of Food Technology with prize funds amounting to $56,000 dollars. Submissions will be evaluated by a jury panel made up of scientific experts and researchers in all fields of human nutrition and food technology. Prior awards and recognitions have been given to leading researchers, including participants from prestigious universities and institutions, such as the University of California, Harvard School of Public Health, Cornell University and others.
