CFIA: St-Fidèle Brand Cheese Curds May Contain Staphylococcus Toxin

OTTAWA – The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Fromagerie St-Fidèle Inc. are warning the public not to consume the St-Fidèle brand cheese curds described below because they may be contaminated with Staphylococcus toxin.

The following St-Fidèle brand products are affected by this alert:

These products have been distributed in Quebec.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.

Food contaminated with Staphylococcustoxin may not look or smell spoiled. The toxin produced by Staphylococcus bacteria is not easily destroyed at normal cooking temperatures. Common symptoms of Staphylococcus poisoning are nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramping and fever. In severe cases, headache, muscle cramping and changes in blood pressure and pulse rate may occur.

The manufacturer, Fromagerie St-Fidèle Inc.,La Malbaie, Quebec, is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
