Leamington, Ontario – Award ceremonies and celebratory dinners were held at the Leamington and Kingsville farms, respectively, to recognize the twenty Highline Associates who completed an English as a Second Language (ESL) & Literacy course. With the support Highline and through training provided by the South Essex Community Council, this course ran twice a week for 17 weeks and challenged Associates to further their English language skills along with various literacy skills.
Lawrence Zimmermann, Director of Growing Operations stated, “This program is near and dear to me because my father, one of the owners of Highline, came to Canada without knowing a single English word and I know it would have meant a lot to him if he was offered a course such as this. This course provides our Associates with the opportunity to grow their communications skills which has a tremendous impact on the way they are able to interact with their fellow Associates.”
Continued learning and higher education is something which Highline strongly believes in and the ESL & Literacy course is one of the many resources Highline offers their Associates. An Annual Family Scholarship Program also provides children and grandchildren of Associates the opportunity to achieve their educational goals.
The Wellington farm will offer a similar course in the fall.
