American Garden Award is proud to announce that the American public can vote on their favorite from the six flowers in the 2012 contest. This year, there are twenty-eight prestigious public gardens participating in the American Garden Award, the nation’s only flower popularity contest. This program is a unique opportunity for the public to vote on a specific flower that they think has the most appealing garden characteristics. Each of the six “contestants” listed below are now planted in the participating gardens and are ready to strut their stuff for the voting.
There are three ways to vote:
- By texting a given code to a polling number
- By going to www.americangardenaward.com and clicking on the flower of choice
- By using postage-paid voting postcards located at the garden.
The six entries are:
- Angelonia angustifolia ‘Serena® Blue’
- Begonia boliviensis ‘Santa Cruz™ Sunset’
- Gazania ‘Big Kiss™ White Flame’ F1
- Petchoa x hybrida ‘SuperCal® Pink Ice’
- Petunia ‘Surfinia® Deep Red’
- Sunflower ‘Goldie’ F1
Voting is open until August 31 and winners will be announced in September.
In the meantime, these flowers, as well as some of the past American Garden Award winners are available at retail garden centers. Ask for them by name! The 2009, 2010 and 2011 winners can be viewed at http://www.americangardenaward.com/past_winners.cfm.
