GAINESVILLE, Fla. — As FDA legislation like the Food Safety Modernization Act shape the face of food safety standards, ABC Research Laboratories keeps pace by bolstering its analytical capabilities through new hires and proficiency training. Increasing existing team member proficiency and hiring highly qualified food testing scientists continues to improve ABC Research's service to the seafood and import/export industries in filth analysis and specialized decomposition analysis. While these services are not new to ABC Research's capabilities, these additional proficiencies will greatly increase efficiency in future testing.
The decomposition training process requires several days of education as well as a strenuous proficiency test for each category of seafood. Ten of ABC Research's food testing experts were successfully tested in five categories including fresh or frozen invertebrates and finfish (shrimp, tuna, mahi mahi, snapper, etc.) and processed finfish and invertibrates (pasteurized crab meat, canned tuna, cooked shrimp, etc).
"We continue to invest in training activities that raise our competency levels," remarked ABC Research Laboratories CEO, Eric Graves. "One of our commitments to the import/export industry is to provide a complete range of services. We believe that our understanding of the regulatory environment both domestically and internationally provides our clients with confidence to let us provide a complete solution for their detention work. Our experience submitting approximately 2,000 packets to the FDA annually allows us to provide resolution expeditiously and efficiently."
ABC Research Laboratories is also pleased to announce the hiring of Dr. Bettina A. Moser as Assistant Laboratory Manager, Water Microbiology. Dr. Moser received her primary training at the Freie Universität in Berlin, Germany before completing her graduate studies, including a doctorate in entomology and microbiology at the University of Florida. With over 25 years of research in education, corporate, and military settings, over a dozen publications and even more honors and awards, Dr. Moser's specialties, including rapid diagnosis of extraneous matter, dovetail perfectly with ABC Research's dedication to the finest food safety testing and analysis.
"In addition to our scientists being experts in their respective fields, they are also innovators who seek continuous improvement in their craft. We continually recruit and retain top-notch scientists and Dr. Moser is a perfect example. Not only does she bring a wealth of knowledge but also the desire to streamline workflows and record keeping." Chief Science Officer, Dr. Gillian Dagan declared. "She is a great addition to the team."
