All Things Baking Is Bigger & Better In Texas

Slidell, Louisiana —All Things Baking, an innovative trade event for forward thinking retail and culinary professionals, will hold its second show in Houston, Texas, September 9-11, 2012. Building on a successful launch in Chicago last fall, All Things Baking 2012 expects to attract more than 3,000 food service professionals looking for cutting-edge education, essential networking opportunities and the latest product trends, equipment and supplies to help them stay competitive, profitable and ahead of consumer trends. “We are very pleased that Houston will host All Things Baking this year,” said Susan Nicolais, RBA Executive Director. “Houston is an incubator for entrepreneurial bakeries and has become a world-class trade show destination with a track-record for growing
events that rotate into the region.”

According to the Greater Houston Partnership, Houston boasts a higher concentration of bakers than New York, Orlando and New Orleans—137 bakers for every 100,000 employed. The region has also experienced double-digit growth when other metropolitan areas were seeing a decline. From 2004 to 2010, retail bakeries in Houston grew 11 percent. Over the same period, the number of retail bakeries declined in Chicago (-8 percent), Orlando (-21 percent), San Francisco (-15 percent) and Los Angeles (-7 percent). Houston, the 5th largest metropolitan area in the United States and one of Forbe Magazine’s top 5 fastest growing cities, will not only draw from the huge concentration of bakeries located in the region, but also provide easy access for attendees from outside the area with three major airports.

All Things Baking will rotate around the country annually, except on IBIE years when it will not hold a standalone event. The move to Houston has been received positively by key exhibitors who have already secured their space for 2012. The new location is seen as an unprecedented opportunity to reach decision makers from regional businesses who historically have not traveled outside of the region—including the growing number of panaderías. Exhibitors such as AB Mauri, Baker's Best, Dawn Food Products, LVO Manufacturing and Revent, Inc. will showcase their latest equipment and technology, decorating supplies, ingredients and flavorings, merchandising supplies, bakeware and molds.

The education program also features some notable locals, including Sara Brook of the Dessert Gallery who will present a live case study on the social media strategies used to drive in-store traffic. Texas native Bud “the Pieman,” founder of the legendary Royers Café, will demonstrate the art of making pies. His pies have been featured on CBS Sunday Morning with Bill Giest, ABC Nightline, Food network numerous times and most recently on the History Channel. The program will also feature several Spanish language classes and Hispanic baking demonstrations.
