MIDDLEBORO — Jim Trucchi gave one of his longtime customers, Celia Pinto, a big hug as he walked through the produce section in his new supermarket on West Grove Street.
That greeting is what differentiates the independent grocer from other supermarket giants, said Pinto of Taunton, who has been a Trucchi’s customer for four decades.
“Everything is so clean. They’ve got the best meat in town,” Pinto, 88, said. “Everybody is very nice in the store.”
The upcoming addition of Market Basket stores in Brockton and West Bridgewater, and a Walmart supercenter in Raynham – which would be the second Walmart in that town – doesn’t worry Trucchi, who has been part of his father’s grocery-store chain since he just was a youngster.
