Londonderry, NH — Stonyfield, the world’s leading organic yogurt maker, in collaboration with LOCO Sports, will host the second annual Stonyfield Earth Day 5K & Fair on Saturday April 21st, 2012. In celebration of Earth Day, the event will feature vendors and activities that emphasize health and sustainability. The 5K road race and fair will take place at the Stonyfield Yogurt Works at 10 Burton Drive in Londonderry,NH. This family-friendly event is open to the public so that everyone can join the fun!
Enhancements for this 2nd year event include kids’ races, family and school team categories and an expanded Earth Day Fair. The kids’ race is free, with day- of- event registration only. Toddlers three years and under can participate in a 50 yard ‘trot,’ children ages four to seven will have a ¼ mile course, and eight to ten year olds will have a ½ mile course. The first kids’ race will begin promptly at 11AM and ribbons will be awarded!
The 5K road race starts at 10AM and features a relatively flat, low-traffic loop course – perfect for runners and walkers of all abilities. The race is open to baby jogging strollers, but pets should stay at home. Race participants will receive a commemorative organic cotton tee-shirt and will also be treated to a range of natural and organic snacks and drinks.
The Earth Day Fair is free and open to the public and features live music from well-known acoustics band ‘Hot Day at the Zoo’, sustainable product samples, tasty organic treats – including many Stonyfield offerings – and a variety of sustainable living tips and activities as well. The Fair opens to the public at 11AM and is open to all, including folks who may not have raced. Exhibitors at the Earth Day Fair will include Earthtech, Seventh Generation, Organic Valley, Honest Tea, Rustic Crust, Pete And Gerry's, Hint, Pretzel Crisps, and more. As it is designed to be a green event, a majority of the generated waste will be recycled or composted and a carpool rideshare program is available on the race’s website: http://www.stonyfield5k.com.
In line with Stonyfield’s mission, 10% of race proceeds will go to causes that protect and restore the Earth. The "Eco Sense" club at Londonderry High School will receive a portion of the funds, and a college-bound senior with plans to study in the environmental or health fields will receive the rest in the form of a scholarship.
The race is being managed by LOCO Sports, a Newmarket (NH) company that operates many of the premier running events throughout the state. Early race registration pricing is $20, then $25 until April 19th. Affordable youth pricing is also available. Race day registration may be available, pending space.
