Following in the footsteps of locally-grown fruits and vegetable producers, cut flower growers are moving ahead with the promotion of their products. The Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers (ASCFG) has recently launched a new online flower search which enables buyers to easily locate flower farms near them.
ASCFG members produce a wide range of floral material, from traditional flowers like lilies and lisianthus, to woody cut stems, ornamental grasses and herbs. Material is sold to wholesale and retail florists, supermarkets, at farmers’ markets, and through CSAs and subscriptions. An increasing number of growers provide wedding and event designs, as today’s brides are also looking for locally-grown flowers.
