QUINCY, MA — As it enters its second decade in Quincy, Kam Man Food is the unquestioned granddaddy of Asian markets, having outlasted rival grocery Super 88 and expanded its own footprint within its sprawling Asian marketplace building last year.
Now the New York-based chain is branching out geographically and seeking to appeal to other ethnic groups.
Last month, Kam Man opened its newest supermarket in Dorchester’s South Bay Center, with the goal of attracting more urban customers and branching out into Latino and African-American groceries.
“It’s just like a chess game,” said Wan Wu, general manager of the Quincy store and a part owner of the chain. “So we’re moving to Boston now to hopefully reclaim some of our customer base. We believe that location is really excellent.”
