Fresno, CA – On behalf of California’s table grape growers, the California Table Grape Commission has awarded 36 teaching grants worth up to $750 each to teachers in the table grape growing regions of California’s San Joaquin and Coachella valleys.
In total, 153 teachers applied for the grants with innovative teaching ideas; 36 of the projects were chosen as finalists. Examples include projects such as school gardens, college visitations for potential first generation college students, field trips to museums and agricultural landmarks, an after-school cooking and exercise class, and land measurement and differential leveling. The funded projects will be completed this spring.
The Innovation in Teaching education grants program was created in 1993 to support innovative classroom projects in the table grape growing regions of California’s San Joaquin and Coachella valleys. The program has since reached over 5,000 students through funded projects.
“California’s table grape growers support education in the communities where they live and work,” said Kathleen Nave, president of the commission. “The Innovation in Teaching program provides teachers with additional resources to implement creative ideas in the classroom.”
The California Table Grape Commission was created by the California legislature in 1967 to increase worldwide demand for fresh grapes from California through a variety of research and promotional programs.
