Boston MA – Phillips Foods is pleased to announce a dynamic partnership to support the important mission of the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP) to improve the world’s fisheries. This new partnership reinforces Phillips passionate commitment to global seafood sustainability. Retroactive to the start of 2012, Phillips Foods will donate three cents per pound to SFP for all fish products sold worldwide.
On Saturday, Phillips Foods presented the leadership of SFP with a check for $5,000 on the eve of The Boston International Seafood Show.
Phillips passionately believes that the seafood industry has a major responsibility to improve their source fisheries to ensure a bountiful supply of safe seafood for Operators and their customers for decades to come. Operators purchasing Phillips Foods seafood products (initially includes Mahi, Tuna, Snapper and Grouper) will be supporting sustainable seafood efforts through this innovative funding concept.

We recognize the importance of investing in fisheries to put them on the road to sustainability. SFP has tremendous experience working with fisheries to improve them as they have a great track record with us already in improving our source crab fisheries throughout Asia.”
Phillips Foods is jump starting this partnership by making their first donation to SFP during aPress Event in Boston today. “The Sustainable Fisheries Partnership is honored to be the recipient of Phillips Foods commitment to global sustainability to fund fisheries improvement programs” noted Jim Cannon, CEO of SFP. “We believe that industry should play a key role in improving the fisheries on which they depend, and Phillips continues to demonstrate not only leadership, but a strong and tangible commitment to sustainable fisheries.”
In addition, all products under the Seawings™ fish platform (the exclusive seafood brand Phillips sells to Sysco) will trigger a donation of three cents per pound sold to be donated to SFP.

Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP) was founded in 2006 as an independent non-governmental organization (NGO) with a mission to engage and catalyze global seafood supply chains in rebuilding depleted fish stocks and reducing the environmental impacts of fishing and fish farming. The organisation provides strategic and technical guidance to seafood suppliers and producers, helps convene them together with other like-minded companies in Fishery Improvement Projects (FIPs), and builds consensus around specific improvements in policies, marine conservation measures, and fishing and fish-farming practices.
