New Orleans' Laurel Street Bakery's Wholesale Bagel Business Taking Off

If you have ordered a bagel in a New Orleans coffee shop, from Mojo on Magazine Street to the Orange Couch on Royal, you probably ate a Laurel Street Bakery bagel. The bakery’s creations are wider, flatter and trend more to the sour than sweet side.

The bakery, which opened Aug. 9, 2005, with house-made bagels, was interrupted by the storm, but resumed shortly thereafter. It still makes and sells hand-made bagels at its Laurel Street site, but about a year and a half ago, the shop’s wholesale business took off.

Already a primary bagel wholesaler, owner Hillary Guttman purchased the old Bagel Factory plant to expand her wholesale business.
