Baby Swiss Takes Best Of Class At World Championship Cheese Contest

Davenport, Iowa: Swiss Valley Farms Baby Swiss wheel was named Best of Class in the Baby Swiss Style category at the 2012 World Championship Cheese Contest, held March 5-7 in Madison, Wis. This international event, which is hosted by the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association, attracts cheese makers from around the world to its biennial competition. This year marked a record number of participants, tallying 2,503 entries from 24 nations.

Swiss Valley Farms Baby Swiss cheese is characterized by its numerous small, shiny eyes and its exceptionally creamy texture. It has a milder flavor profile when compared to traditional Swiss. Swiss Valley Farms had recently transitioned production of these wheels from its former manufacturing site in Platteville, Wis. to White Hill Cheese Co., LLC, a joint-venture site with Emmi-Roth Käse USA, located in Shullsburg, Wis.

Baby Swiss now joins the “Best of Class” ranks with the company’s other World Championship Cheese Contest winners, including Swiss Valley Farms Swiss, who won a Best of Class in 2008 and AmaGorg, a cave-aged gorgonzola from the Caves of Faribault who took home the award in 2010.
