CASHMERE, Wash. – Crunch Pak, the largest sliced apple company in the country, is joining 6,000 companies and the USDA to make March 8 "What's on MyPlate?" day. The goal is to increase awareness of the importance of choosing foods that create healthy meals.
"Crunch Pak is committed to promoting a healthy diet and the message behind the new MyPlate food icon," said Tony Freytag, senior vice president of sales and marketing.
The MyPlate icon is the new USDA food graphic replacing MyPyramid. It supports the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, features the five food groups (fruits, vegetables, grains, protein, and dairy), and sends people to ChooseMyPlate.gov to learn more.
The goal of "What's on MyPlate?" Day is to create nationwide attention by using social networks such as blogs, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook, to promote MyPlate and healthier eating. A key goal is to share the message to "Enjoy your food, but eat less," and let people tell their stories and share photographs of their own personal successes through social media tools.
For example, Crunch Pak encourages social media users to put MyPlate into action by taking a photo of their healthful plates to share on Twitter with the hash-tag #MyPlate, or on the USDA Flickr Photo Group at http://www.flickr.com/groups/choosemyplate.
