P.E.I. lobster fishers are hoping to run a pilot project through the Internet this year designed to eke out the best price for their catch from boat to buyer.
Utilizing online marketing connections, the plan is to create a pool of available top-quality seafood ready to be sold anyplace and anywhere; for the right price and primarily by those who brought the catch ashore.
“It’s time to try something new,” says Keith Flett.
“There is a lot of potential for the establishment of a new marketplace for the lobster industry here and developing a new model utilizing lobster boats and the easy access via some of the local docks.”
Flett is the founder and CEO of Open Ocean Trading in Gloucester, Massachusetts and was a guest speaker at the annual meeting of the P.E.I. Fisherman’s Association over the weekend.
