PGA Tour Player Andrew Magee To Headline Paul Abenante PEC Golf Tournament

WASHINGTON, D.C. The American Bakers Association is pleased to announce that Andrew Magee will be the guest tournament pro during the 2012 Paul Abenante PEC Golf Tournament, April 17, at the ABA Convention in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Mr. Magee has won four PGA events and is the only person on the PGA Tour to have hit a hole-in-one on a par-4 during a PGA event. In 1998, he finished third at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic one week after hitting his left-index finger with a chainsaw while cutting a limb. In comment that typifies his unique sense of humor, he remarked, “There are better ways to weaken the grip on your left hand, don't you think?”

"I have known Andrew for a few years now,” said ABA Golf Tournament Co-Chair Charlie Stout, Milner Milling, “I know he will be a very entertaining addition to the tournament.”

“I encourage all convention attendees to participate in the tournament,” added ABA Chairman Allen Shiver, Flowers Foods. “Last year’s hole-in-one by Nick Marcucci of Gonnella Baking Company had made the tournament even more exciting. Even ‘Ace’ Marcucci will agree that the tournament is for all levels. Everyone should come with the goal of having fun.” J&K Ingredients will again sponsor the “J&K Hole-in-One Contest” in 2012.

Returning to the ABA Convention is Dennis Satyshur, head PGA professional of Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Md. Mr. Satyshur was the 1997 Ryder Cup assistant captain and in 2009 received the PGA of America Bill Strausbaugh Award.

The Paul Abenante PEC Golf Tournament is designed as a fun event for golfers of all abilities to join in support of ABA’s political education activities. The proceeds of the tournament are invested in critically-important activities such as ABA’s “Rise to Action” grassroots website, congressional directories, and high-profile speakers. It also is a fun way for bakers and suppliers to conduct some informal networking during the ABA Convention.

The 2012 ABA Convention, April 14-18, at the Scottsdale Fairmont Princess, promises to once again be the premier industry event of the year. The theme of “Baking Industry United” celebrates each individual’s integral role in the industry. The convention will bring together hundreds of leaders from America’s baking businesses and their suppliers for networking, idea exchange, and working sessions. Registration is open to both members and prospective members. More information may be found at www.americanbakers.org.
