Introducing Rey Silo Afuega'l Pitu from Asturias, Spain

PORTLAND, Maine – The Rogers Collection is proud to introduce a new artisanal cheese to our collection, Afuega’l Pitu DO. From award winning producer, Rey Silo, this raw milk cow’s milk cheese comes from the historically rich cheese producing region of Asturias, Spain.

This firm surface-ripened cheese is aged for at least two months in an underground cellar on the banks of the Nalon River in Pravia. The natural rind has a mold that is predominately geotricum candidum. Intense flavors of wildflowers and fresh milk, with hints of hazelnut and butter. The paste is creamy yet dry and has a minimum dry content of 30% and a minimum percentage of fat 45% and protein 35%.

Afuega’l Pitu Red is also available and is made using the finest red pepper from Spain’s Extremadura region which adds a spicy finish.
