LAKELAND – There's a mini-makeover happening in the Publix Deli.
New wood grain shelves packed with a broader selection of snacks. New tags for speciality cheeses that can make a cheese novice feel like a connoisseur. Signage with quick meal ideas using prepared foods.
Lakeland-based Publix is implementing the new deli design "to create a more pleasurable shopping environment for our deli customers — to bring them more specialty items and expand on unique products, and communicate all of the offerings we have," said Publix spokeswoman Shannon Patten.
Patten showed off the changes last week during a visit to Publix's Bartow location, the first in the area to debut the new design. The Southgate Publix in Lakeland also has incorporated some of the changes, and Publix will do the same at many other locations chainwide (depending on size) throughout 2012.
