OMAHA, Neb. — The holiday season has come and gone, leaving some with a lighter wallet and a tighter budget. Now, local food pantries are seeing a higher demand for food. But a semitruck full of chicken will help relieve some of that need.
No Frills Supermarket and Smart Chicken donated nearly 5,000 pounds of chicken to two local food pantries. The owner of one of those pantries said the donation is especially meaningful because it allows children and families not only a warm meal, but a nutritious one.
"This is huge for people in need because one of the most expensive items for them to buy is protein. So having access to meat is a blessing to them," said Chelsea Salifou, of the Heartland Hope Mission.
