BALDWIN PARK – Fresh and Easy Neighborhood Market announced Tuesday that it plans to temporarily close 12 underperforming stores, including a location in Baldwin Park that opened less than two years ago.
But the company plans to open 24 new stores by the end of March, none in this region.
The closures are part of the company's effort to reach profitability by the close of the fiscal year that ends in February 2013.
"At this time, there is simply not enough growth in sales and customers at these stores to keep them open," the grocery chain said in a statement. "We will close these stores over the coming weeks, and we will re-open them when economic and business conditions warrant."
