FREEPORT — Co-ops, bakers and others took to Facebook and Twitter to express their sadness and sympathy when Central Minnesota’s only flour mill was destroyed by a fire Tuesday, Dec. 27th.
The Swany White mill in Freeport has been family-owned and operated since 1903. It was known for its organic and unique products that were made with much of the mill’s original equipment.
“We sell those products in our stores in St. Paul, so we were really saddened to hear the news about the mill,” said Kari Binning, marketing and media manager for Mississippi Market Natural Foods Co-op.
Nancy Gertner of St. Louis Park is feeling the loss. She is a Facebook friend of the Swany White mill.
