GA Ag Commissioner Gary Black Scheduled To Speak During Business Operations Track

The SE Regional Fruit and Vegetable Conference is pleased to announce that Gary Black, the Georgia Department of Agriculture Commissioner, is scheduled to speak during the Business Operations Track II – Insurance, Transportation and Immigration at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2012 in Rooms 105/106 at The Savannah International Convention and Trade Center. The SE Regional Fruit and Vegetable Conference held January 5 -8, 2012, in Savannah, GA, offers informative classes and demonstrations designed to bring the most up-to-date and relevant information to the fruit and vegetable industry.

Black will be giving an update on the labor study conducted by the Georgia Department of Agriculture as required by HB 87 'The Illegal Immigration Reform and Enforcement Act of 2011.' Black is to deliver this study to the governor and the legislature on January 3, 2012. He will present findings from the study and answer questions from growers and the press. Black will be making his remarks at 3:00 p.m.

Other topics covered during the Business Operations Track II that afternoon include transportation, PACA services, and the analysis of risks in the buyer-grower contract. Bob Redding from the Redding Firm in Washington, DC will also give a legislative update on immigration from the federal level. The session begins at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2012 from in rooms 105/106, adjourning around 4:30 p.m.

Continuing education credits for pesticide application license are available for a number of the sessions on all three days.
