BILOXI, Miss. – Three commercial fishing seasons will open in Mississippi territorial waters on New Year’s Day. The commercial fishing season for spotted seatrout (Cynoscion nebulosus), which has a 40,000-pound quota, red drum (Sciaenops ocellatus), which has a 35,000-pound quota and flounder (Paralicthys sp), which has a 74,000-pound quota will each open Jan. 1, 2012, at 12:01 a.m.
The opening of each of these seasons is issued under the authority of Section 49-15-15 (1) of the Mississippi Code of 1972.
The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources is dedicated to enhancing, protecting and conserving marine interests of the state by managing all marine life, public trust wetlands, adjacent uplands and waterfront areas to provide for the optimal commercial, recreational, educational and economic uses of these resources consistent with environmental concerns and social changes.
