Pelion, S.C. – WP Rawl (Rawl) gives back to local communities through support of the Rockin’ Appalachian Mom Project (RAMP), a non-profit dedicated to fighting poverty in the Appalachian region of the U.S. through nutrition. This is the third year in a row Rawl has supported RAMP. Last week, Rawl spread some holiday cheer by donating 465 individual gift boxes of fresh greens, seasonal fruits and vegetables, and coupons for Nature’s Greens, Versatile Veggies and Paula Deen products to the Homecoming Food Pantry in Inez, Ky, and to some of the neediest school children in the community as identified through RAMP’s Backpack Snack Program. The donation is being made in honor of all of Rawl’s customers as a thank you for their loyal support.
Since 2009, the Homecoming Food Pantry serves more than 150 families each year by providing them with nonperishable healthy food, fresh produce and personal items. For the past three years, Rawl has partnered with RAMP to support the food pantry. And new this year is Rawl’s support of RAMP’s Backpack Snack Program, an initiative that identifies the neediest school-age and Head Start program children and discreetly and generously sends healthy and nutritious food home with the children in backpacks twice a month. Without the Backpack Snack Program, many of these children would go hungry on weekends and during school vacations. Although RAMP’s focus is outside of Rawl’s own community of Pelion where Rawl gives back throughout the year, it is a partnership that is close to the family-owned company’s heart.
“We are so grateful to WP Rawl for their continued support,” said Amy Guerrieri, founder of RAMP. “Their donations truly bring the warmth of the holiday season home to so many families in Martin County. We couldn’t do the work that we do without the help of companies like WP Rawl, and these boxes of food will go far in helping these families have a much happier and healthier holiday season.
As vegetables and in particularly greens are the perfect source of vitamins and minerals, they are always a welcome addition to organizations trying to improve the lives of children—and companies like WP Rawl are happy to provide them.
“Our family always tries to give back to the communities we are a part of,” said Ashley Rawl, Director of Sales & Marketing. We are fortunate that our business is growing healthy foods and are able to share them with young children who need them to grow strong. RAMP is a great way for us to help make a difference during the holiday season.”
