This year Oakhurst Dairy has provided a tractor, trailer and driver to support the Wreaths Across America initiative to transport and place thousands of wreaths at Arlington National Cemetery. In addition, Oakhurst Dairy employees sponsored over 75 wreaths through payroll deduction. We have rebranded one of our tractors and trailer a new graphic in support of this great organization and all of those that serve or have served our country.
Wreaths Across America is a nonprofit organization that was founded by Maine businessman Morrill Worcester in 1992. In conjunction with the Worcester Wreath Company, the Wreaths Across America organization coordinates wreath laying ceremonies at veteran cemetery sites throughout the entire country and coordinates a large trucking convoy from Maine to Arlington National Cemetery. On Saturday, December 10, 2011, thousands of volunteers will place wreaths at individual gravesites in various sections of the cemetery. Worcester Wreath Company donates thousands of wreaths as well as providing wreaths on behalf of individual and corporate sponsors. The mission of “Remember, Honor, Teach” is carried out during the week-long “Veteran’s Parade” tribute between Maine and Virginia where there are various stops along the way to spread the message about the importance of remembering our fallen heroes, honoring those who serve and teaching our children about the sacrifices made by veterans and their families to preserve our freedoms. This program is made possible by thousands of volunteers who organize local ceremonies, raise funds to sponsor wreaths, and participate in the events. These programs are paid for by individual wreaths sponsors, corporate donors and volunteer truckers. There is no government funding. Oakhurst Dairy has always been a strong supporter of our armed forces and especially our employees that have proudly served our country.
The convoy will depart Harrington, Maine on Sunday, December 4, 2011 and begin their trek to Arlington with various stops in Maine before they leave the state on Monday. We have provided our driver with resources that will help them document their journey in words and pictures. We are posting details about their trip each day on our website and Facebook. Please check back for updates as they make their way toward Arlington! Click here to see a map of their planned trip.

We would like to thank a handful of employees at Oakhurst in our Fleet Maintenance facility that worked tirelessly to prepare our truck. Their effort, attention to detail and respectful approach to preparing a truck that would proudly represent our business and more importantly all the heroes that have made the ultimate sacrifice is very much appreciated. In addition we would like to provide a special thanks to Carl Phillips and his wife Marcena who volunteered their time to make the week-long drive the truck to Arlington. You can find the detailed convoy schedule here.
