Rose Variety Dolcetto!, Coming From Ethiopia Nominated For 'De Glazen Tulp' Award

Every year the “Glazen Tulp” award elections take place amongst buyers at FloraHolland for what they think is the best novelty of the last year. The elections take place in October and during the Hortiweek, early November, the nominated products are announced. In January 2012 the Glazen Tulp will awarded to the best overall novelty.

This year, for the first time, an African produced rose was nominated. Dolcetto!, grown by Linssen Roses in Ethiopia and bred by Schreurs Roses and Gerberas, reached the third place. An excellent achievement! Dolcetto! draws attention by its nice light and dark purple flower with a high petal count and a nostalgic, romantic appearance.

The election is amongst buyers at FloraHolland. The outcome is a good signal how FleurPrimeurs are received and rewarded by our clients.

This year the election was expanded. Early October, during the Market Event at location Bleiswijk, we organised “The Rose Gallery”. A new platform, where we present last years novelties to growers, buyers, wholesalers and florists. Especially the input of florists is new. With their opinion the election even becomes more valuable.

FleurPrimeur exists already many years as a label of quality and innovation. Varieties which are allowed to call themselves FleurPrimeur have to meet extra standards of vase life, opening and transportability. FleurPrimeur stimulates breeders and growers to introduce better varieties.
