World Wide Fish Products Recalls Smoked Uneviscerated Split Herring

World Wide Fish Products, Inc. located in Bronx, NY is recalling Smoked Split Herring because the product was found to be uneviscerated.

The product was distributed in New York City on 08/17/2011 to the following businesses: Food Plaza Supermarket, NSA Supermarket (Bravo), Brooklyn # 1 Meat Market, P&P Distributors, and Flaming Meat Distributors.

The product was sampled by a New York State Agriculture and Markets Food Inspector during a routine Inspection. Analysis of the product by New York State Food Laboratory Personnel confirmed the Smoked split Herring had not been completely eviscerated prior to processing.

The sale of uneviscerated or incompletely eviscerated fish is prohibited under New York State Agriculture and Markets Regulations because clostridium botulinum spores are more likely to be concentrated in the viscera than any other portion of the fish.

No illnesses have been reported to date.
