WASHINGTON, D.C. The American Bakers Association is pleased to announce that Commodities Futures Trading Commission Chairman Gary Gensler will round out the speaker line up for the joint meeting of the ABA and Allied Trades of the Baking Industry (ATBI) Boards. Chairman Gensler will address the groups at their meeting on Sept. 21 in Washington, D.C.
“With commodity market volatility at the very top of our members’ list of concerns, we are very eager to get a first-hand update from the leading authority on this issue,” said ABA President & CEO Robb MacKie.
ABA looks forward to hearing Chairman Gensler’s perspective on the status of ABA’s request to place position limits on index funds; the CFTC’s efforts to address volatile markets and restore consumer confidence; and the implementation of key Dodd/Frank provisions.
“This will be a tremendous opportunity for ABA and ATBI leaders to bring their questions directly to the CFTC chairman,” continued MacKie. “We thank Chairman Gensler for making time to be with our members, and for all that he has already done for our industry. We are very lucky to have him in our corner as we work toward a better environment for both business and consumers.”
Chairman Gensler was appointed CFTC chairman in May of 2009, after having previously served at the U.S. Department of the Treasury as under secretary of domestic finance and as assistant secretary of financial markets. He additionally served as a senior advisor to the chairman of the U.S. Senate Banking Committee, and spent 18 years working at Goldman Sachs.
The ABA Board of Directors is comprised of top leaders from all segments of the baking industry who help develop consensus policies that improve the government environment and overall health of the baking industry. Allen Shiver, president of Flowers Foods, is chairman of the board.
