The USPB is pleased to deliver, for industry use, the Nielsen Scantrack® segment reports for Supermarkets ONLY for Q2 (April – June) 2011 for Fresh UPC products, Chips, Dehy, Frozen, and Refrigerated potatoes.
SUMMARIES
On a pound volume basis, Q2 2011 fresh UPC product was down compared to Q2 2010 (7.3%). Prices in fresh grew 20.9%, and despite declining volume sales, fresh dollars grew 12.1%, the largest increase for any category in Q2 2011. Behind fresh, refrigerated products registered the second-largest price increases, 6.8%. However, unlike fresh, refrigerated volume sales were greater than the previous year, up 1.4%. Frozen products also demonstrated pound growth in the face of rising prices, up 2% in overall volume since Q2 2010. Chips and dehy sales, on the other hand, declined in the most recent quarter. Chips lost 1.7% in volume, while dehy declined 0.8%. Both categories demonstrated minimal dollar growth influenced by rising prices.
For the 52 weeks ending June 25, 2011, chips and refrigerated categories recorded volume gains compared to the prior 52-week period. Fresh and dehy demonstrated volume losses over the past 12 months. Fresh volume sales registered the largest declines, 6.9%.
