By mid-afternoon on Monday, the state Department of Health and Hospitals launched Eat Safe, which it calls a comprehensive food-safety website, providing information on food safety, as well as a database for restaurant inspections.
Secretary Bruce Greenstein did a small two-talk tour on Monday, showing the website to members of the Louisiana Restaurant Association in New Orleans at 10:30 a.m. and members of the media in Baton Rouge at 3:15 p.m.
Monday’s briefings come one day after The Advertiser published a weeks-long investigation showing how poorly Louisiana compares to the rest of the country when it comes to making inspection information available and understandable to consumers. Even now, with its new site, the DHH still provides no rating system or guide for making sense of violation jargon.
Greenstein said this is the first version of the website. On Nov. 10, DHH will launch a second version.
