WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. — The Dole Nutrition Institute (DNI), a division of Dole Food Company, Inc. (NYSE: DOLE), today announced its support for and participation in Food Day, a national campaign organized by the nonprofit Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) to urge Americans to “Eat Real” on October 24, 2011. Dole will be supporting Food Day via newsletter updates, a video promoting Food Day, a month-long banana “Food Day” sticker campaign reaching 100 million consumers, retailer partnerships, and a Food Day event at the Dole Research Lab at the North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis, NC.
“Almost all Americans should be consuming much more fruit, vegetables, beans, and whole grains,” said CSPI Executive Director Michael F. Jacobson, Ph.D. “So I hope consumers, producers, restaurants and supermarkets take advantage of Food Day and use it as an opportunity to change Americans’ diets for the better.”
In its first year, Food Day aims to bring together Americans from all walks of life to help solve America’s food challenges and will see thousands of forums and celebrations from coast to coast aimed at promoting healthy diets and solving local communities’ food problems.
“CSPI’s Food Day fits perfectly with Dole’s commitment to feed the world with knowledge – and some of the healthiest foods on earth,” said Jennifer Grossman, Sr. Vice President, Dole Nutrition Institute. “We are honored to be a part of this historic event.”
Local organizers are invited to find Food Day events near them or create their own Food Day events at www.FoodDay.org.
