In Charlotte, the Bloom is off the rose – or at least off the store signs.
Four months after Delhaize, Food Lion's parent company, announced it would close all of its Bloom stores in the Carolinas and reopen them as Food Lions, Charlotte's first store conversion is complete. On Wednesday, the former Bloom on Park Road near Kenilworth Avenue officially reopened under the Food Lion banner, to be followed by eight other local Blooms next week.
Company officials said in March that Bloom stores, which first opened seven years ago in Charlotte, didn't meet expectations in the Carolinas. But on Wednesday, they said the stores remained a valuable place for trying out new ideas.
"I think we've learned a lot, and we'll continue to," said David Robinson, Food Lion director of operations for the Charlotte region.
