MORELL A major P.E.I. mussel processing company is hoping to bite into the global marketplace by offering it a variety of flavours.
With plans to expand into Japan, Europe, Israel, Egypt and China, P.E.I. Mussel King in Morell got a financial boost on Thursday to the tune of $5.8 million.
The federal government, through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, is investing $1 million to help purchase necessary equipment while the provincial government, through Innovation P.E.I. and the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture and Rural Development, is chipping in the other $4.8 million in this initiative.
"We believe that this expansion is a critical step forward, not only for our company, but for the Canadian mussel industry as a whole,'' said Esther Dockendorff, president of P.E.I. Mussel King.
