QUINCY, Mass. — The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company LLC announced today the launch of Scan It! Mobile – the next generation of its in-store handheld scanner that allows customers to use their mobile device to scan and bag their groceries while they shop. Operating on the iPhone® 3GS or 4G, the new app allows customers to complete an entire shopping trip on their mobile devices. Shoppers can download the app for free at stopandshop.com/scanitmobile or the Apple® App Store today.
Stop & Shop is the first supermarket company in the United States to offer a mobile, in-store shopping experience where customers can shop, tally and check out through their mobile phones. Scan It! Mobile also provides shoppers with personalized offers based on each customer’s past purchasing history. A natural transition from the in-store handheld Scan It! device, the mobile app provides another option to customers interested in using this innovative technology.
“It’s about customer choice,” said Mark McGowan, president, Stop & Shop New England Division. “We’ve received tremendous feedback on our Scan It! technology because it allows customers to simplify their shopping experience – from tracking their budgets while they shop to reducing their time in store. We understand that mobile apps are changing the way consumers shop and are excited to be the first supermarket company in the United States to offer this option to customers.”
Currently, Scan It! Mobile is being piloted in three Stop & Shop stores in Massachusetts: 65 Newport Ave., Quincy, Mass.; 300 Grove St., Braintree, Mass.; and 129 Samoset St., Plymouth, Mass. When the pilot is complete later this year, Stop & Shop will evaluate timing to roll out the app throughout more stores across the chain in 2012.
The Scan It! Mobile software was developed in partnership with Modiv Media, a mobile marketing solutions company based in Quincy, Mass. For media inquiries, in-store demos and interviews with Stop & Shop or Modiv representatives, please contact Anne Moulin at amoulin@webershandwick.com.
