Olivehurst-based ShoEi Foods USA, the U.S. branch of the Japanese food company, said it has earned the first food safety certification for walnuts from the British Retail Consortium's Global Standards program. Certification came after a yearlong review process.
BRC Global Standards were introduced in 1998 and ultimately became an international measuring stick for product safety. More than 100 countries are home to certified entities.
Certification is based on good manufacturing practices, employee training, proper hygiene, sanitation practices and control of allergens.
