It takes a tasty cookie to compete with the Keeblers and Nabiscos of the world.
For the past three decades, Debbie-Jo's sugar cookies have been holding their own against these major corporations on the shelves of local grocery and convenience stores.
The cookies are baked in a small building wedged between an alley and a row home in the 300 block of South Sixth Street by owner Tom Curtin and a team of six dedicated employees.
The company was started in the early 1980s by Curtin's mom, Joan, who began baking in the back room of her North Lebanon Township luncheonette with a friend named Debbie – hence the name Debbie-Jo's.
