Catfish will surpass shrimp to become Vietnam’s top fisheries export item by 2015, analysts forecast at a conference held in Ho Chi Minh City last weekend.
Speaking at the Vietnam Catfish – Strategic Vision 2015, held to discuss export trends and Vietnam’s competitive advantages in fisheries, they said the prediction was based on export growth of the two items in the last 15 years, global demand trends, and customers’ preferences in main markets.
Besides, there would be more middle-income customers while seafood prices were steadily falling due to abundant supply, they added.
The conference was hosted by Vietnam Association of Seafood Export.
