Bread Bakers Guild Of America International Bakery Open House June 25

Sonoma, CA – The Bread Bakers Guild of America announces an international Bakery Open House that will take place on Saturday, June 25. Fifty-five Guild member bakeries in 26 US states, 2 Canadian provinces, and Ireland will participate in the event, which is part of The Guild’s 2011 event series, Breadville USA: Exploring Local Baking in America.

Richard Miscovich of the Guild Board of Directors and Associate Professor at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, RI, says, “The Guild-Wide Bakery Open House was conceived as a way to celebrate the work of artisan bakers who are turning The Bread Bakers Guild of America’s vision of ‘real, good bread in every community’ into a reality. We’re very excited about this event, which will focus the attention of people in three different countries on the bakers and bakeries who provide their daily bread.”

For a list of bakeries which will be open to the public, as well as a description of individual events, please visit www.bbga.org.

The Bread Bakers Guild of America led the bread renaissance that occurred during the evolution of highquality artisan foods in 1990s America, a time when Americans began to learn about crusty, well-fermented hearth breads, flaky  laminated croissants and Danishes. Since then, The Guild has tirelessly promoted artisan baking education, and the result is evident in many communities across the nation where people can expect and enjoy a hearty pain au levain or delicate brioche.

The Guild has over 1,300 members in the United States and 11 other countries, including Canada, France, the United Kingdom, and Australia. Guild membership benefits include a cutting-edge quarterly publication, Bread Lines, discounted tuition on hands-on Guild Master Classes across the nation, and a dynamic online forum dedicated to the exchange of baking knowledge.

Breadville USA: Exploring Local Baking in America is part of The Guild’s mission to “shape the skills and knowledge of the artisan baking community.” For the full 2011 events calendar, please visit www.bbga.org.
