SAN DIEGO — One local flower grower said business is blooming although there are still challenges ahead.
Mike Mellano grows flowers on 300 acres in Oceanside and at the Flower Fields in Carlsbad. Every year, the business sells about 60 million to 70 million cut flowers.
Mellano's family has been in the flower business since 1925. When 10News talked to him in 2009, things were not going well.
"We're down 15 to 20 percent in sales," he told 10News in an interview in 2009.
Now, it's a different story for Mellano.
"Things are looking pretty good," he said on Wednesday.
He said business is back to where it was before the recession.
