International Boston Seafood Show/Seafood Processing America Drew Increased Crowds

Portland, ME – The recent International Boston Seafood Show/Seafood Processing America event held March 20th-22nd was deemed a big success and drew a professional audience of thousands, according to event organizers.

More than 18,422 people, including exhibitors attended the International Boston Seafood Show/Seafood Processing America, representing an increase of over 1,000 attendees over last year’s event. The show spanned 167,180 gross square feet in the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center and attracted participants from 918 companies and 41 countries.

The event was a huge success, according to Mary Larkin, Vice President of Seafood Expositions of Diversified Business Communications, the company that produces the event. “Exhibitors and visitors were pleased with the event as the seriousness of supply issues really presented itself this year,” she said. “That and the fact that the economy is gaining strength again showed that buyers were ready to purchase both seafood and equipment. The buzz on the show floor was evident all three days of the event.”

The International Boston Seafood Show celebrated its 30th anniversary and had increased attendance, partly due to high demand for seafood. The event continues to be the largest gathering of seafood professionals in North America and has become a venue for major seafood industry announcements. WalMart and Sam’s Club US unveiled their new sustainable seafood policies at the event as part of the events comprehensive conference program.

Stand-out new products were recognized as part of the annual Seafood Excellence Awards. St. James Smokehouse Inc. won the “Best New Retail” award for their St. James Scotch Reserve Smoked Salmon Infused with Hendrick’s Scottish Gin & Tonic and Dish Hospitality Pvt Ltd. won the “Best New Foodservice” award for their Prawn Lollipop.

The fun factor was visible at the event with record-breaking crowds attending the 5th annual oyster shucking competition, a new Game Lounge, the 2nd annual Tweet & Meet Tweetup, and a keynote address from Wayne Rogers, entrepreneur, actor (M*A*S*H) and commentator of Fox Business News.

The event will be co-located again next year with The New England Food Show from March 11th to 13th at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. More coverage of the International Boston Seafood Show is available on seafoodsource.com.
