A major supplier of pork to the country’s supermarkets, Cranswick, has now won export approval to supply the United States with fresh pork, it was announced today.
It reported an 8pc rise in pre-tax profits to £47.1m and saw fresh pork sales rise by 17pc from its two processing plants at Watton and also at Preston, near Hull.
Cranswick, which supplies pork products for the Jamie Oliver brand as well as Sainsbury’s and Tesco, has been approved by the US Department of Agriculture to ship fresh pork from its Yorkshire plant.
This facility at Preston, near Hull, which re-opened in January after a three-year £13m revamp, has increased capacity by 50pc.
